“I have owned five Garmin gps over the years: aviation, hiking & car.
While the nuvi 200 doesn’t have many of the detailed options the older 2650 has, it has 95% of the functions most people would use.

Positives:
It’s small, light & has a great, bright screen.
Has ALL of continental USA maps & points of interest
Very simple navigation menus & option menus
It announces turns (but not street names)
It has a good battery, to use on foot
It has a very good antenna built inside
It routes quickly and recalculates fast; looks up addresses fast; Seems about as fast as a more expensive unit.
The windshield mount works great
You can send it waypoints using Garmin mapsource software

You can backup waypoints (favorites) to computer.
Can add photos.
It has 5 “map detail” settings.
It does have a pedestrian mode, which is nice when I took it hiking.

Lacking:
It doesn’t pronounce street names (must pay more for a fancier model for that)
You can’t customize data displays: fancier units allow you to display other things, like total distance and control when pop ups happen
Can’t attach an external antenna (doesn’t seem to need it)“

“With the new updates Garmin improved the 200 which is very fast to lock on now. (Bravo chip update & new 3.40 update). Screen brightness and the speaker on the 200 is excellent. Now includes a tracking log. Fits in your pocket.
No Text-To-Speech though.

The 660 has Bluetooth, TTS and an MP3 player but I rarely use it.
I think with the nuvi 200 well below $200 it is by far the best value for the buck.”

Limitations:

Verdict:

If you are looking for a small, lightweight and low cost personal & vehicle GPS AND you don’t care about driving in Canada or Alaska. Then this may be the right unit for you.

For many though the lack of text-to-speech, meaning the unit will speak it’s directions to you, will be a deal-breaker.
