Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS User Feedback
“Since I was looking for my very first GPS, I put in a lot of research given the amount of different brands and options available in the market. I decided to buy the Magellan as it’s from the Hertz brand and I had always had success in rentals with these units. What appealed to me most was-
- The feature that completed the spelling of the object I was searching for
- The wide 4.3 inch screen
- When compared to Garmin NUVI 260, it seemed that the Garmin spent more time in thinking than the 1412
- The POI’s huge library was a complete seller. The 1412 always accurately displayed the many known POI’s I entered
I have no complaints and would highly recommend it.”
“Magellan 1412 is my 3rd and most favorite GPS till date. By tapping on “tow truck”, it gives me the elevation of my location and I find this very useful as I live on the mountains.
The USB cable of your camera can be used in case you want your batteries to be charged while in the house. Once the USB is connected to the computer, you can turn it off by holding down the on/off key. The battery will get charged even if it is switched off.
“The speech is extremely clear for turns and street names. I also like how quickly it recalculates new routes. You can get several satellites in a few seconds even when inside the house. My wife’s favorite is the chime amongst the 3 choices, as she is a bit hard of hearing. She also likes the way it automatically fills-in when a city or a street name is typed. She used to get very annoyed with our previous Honda GPS as it did not allow us to make a favorite by naming a trip, which is now very easy to do with 1412. Since my wife has long nails, we had to buy a stylus for her and it works perfectly for her. From Big Lots, we bought a camera bag for $5 and the GPS fits into it flawlessly. The bag also has a net pocket where we put the styles and it all fits just fine! We love our new 1412 because of its utility…Hope our review helps!”
“After reading heaps of reviews about GPS systems, I decided to settle for Magellan as it seemed easy and one of my friends also had it. I bought it a couple of days before I had to leave for a trip, so could not print the manual that came on CD; I therefore had to rely on my not too competent technical skills and my intuition! Fortunately, I had made the correct choice, as it was extremely simple to use and rather intuitive. The POI feature did seem a bit slow however it got through the California freeways quite conveniently. Also, the shortest route provided by the GPS was not always the shortest, although the feature of automatic recalculation worked marvelously whenever I deviated from the designed route. I think you would be most satisfied with this product especially if you are not a technical geek!”
